Do you also think that some European Union talk is as clear as mud?

Do you want to say or ask something? Go ahead!

To porównanie jest dość przewrotne, ponieważ w oryginale mówimy o czymś co jest 'tak jasne jak błoto'. W języku polskim nie potrafię znaleźć żadnego porównania, które mogłoby oddać sens wersji angielskiej. Może Tobie przychodzi coś do głowy?

Are you often as mad as a hatter?
... or maybe as a hornet?
... or perhaps as a March hare?

Angielski ma tutaj przynajmniej trzy porównania. Zastanawiałem się długo nad polskim odpowiednikiem, bo kapelusznik nie wydaje mi się specjalnie polski. Może Wam przychodzi coś do głowy?

Do you like traveling?

Do you want to say or ask something? Go ahead!

What about you? Are you bitten by the travel bug? To tell you the truth, if only I had more cash and money, I would definitely visit more places. However, despite the fact I have already been to many countries, I still feel like going other places. I guess, traveling is very addictive and the more you travel, the hungrier you become. Would you agree?

Do you know different Englishes?

Did you know that the English of the UK is different from the English of the USA?

Generally speaking, these differences occur on three levels:

  • lexical (vocabulary)
  • grammatical, and
  • phonological
Below, I have produced a few examples of sentences that are typical of the USA. Look at the words in bold. This is what an American would say:

  • Chicago is very different than Austin.
  • The exhibition continues through 31 August.
  • She’s shy around boys.
  • There was a large hole in the back of the house.
  • We haven’t seen Mark in years.
  • This drawing isn’t good enough. Do it over.
  • She was here from a quarter of eight to a quarter after nine.
  • Henry Wood made a speech in behalf of the whole group.
  • The station is named for its founder.
Is there anybody out there who can 'translate' these sentences into the British English version?

What are you struggling with these days?

Do you want to say or ask something? Go ahead!

STRUGGLE means WALCZYĆ, BORYKAĆ SIĘ, SZAMOTAĆ SIĘ. In our lives we have to struggle with different things each day - this is what life consists in.

We may use this word in many other collocations:

  • armed struggle - walka zbrojna
  • struggle through - przebrnąć przez
  • struggle for survival/independence - walka o przetrwanie/niepodległość
  • power struggle - walka o władzę
  • inner struggle - walka wewnętrzna
and many other struggles...

What are you struggling with these days?
