Egzaminujący: Hi Magda. So we have three photos in front of us. What do you think of them?
Zdający: Yes, indeed. There are three interesting photos and I have to choose the winning one! It's a hard task for me because each of these photos refers to some new chapter in life. In the first one we see a young couple bringing some big boxes in. They might be moving into a new flat. In the second photo we see a calendar page, which makes me think of the New Year and resolutions people make. In this sense, it may be a new start too. In the third picture it may be the beginning of a new academic year.
Egzaminujący: Right. I'm afraid we still need your final say, don't we?
Zdający: It's true. the choice is really tough for me. Still, I think that my final choice is the first photo. And why? Well, the first picture seems to be the most serious. We see two young people, probably a married couple. Recently, they must have started a new chapter in their lives and now they're moving into a newly bought flat. It's a great start to their being together. In my opinion, this is the best photograph to match the title of the competition.
Egzaminujący: Thank you. I think it's a good choice.
Zdający: I'd like to add that I reject the other two photos for they are not as convincing as the first one. I mean, especially the third doesn't really clearly make me think that it's about a fresh start. It might be confusing for others too.
Egzaminujący: Yes, I agree with you. Well, thank you.
Pytania dla egzaminującego.
Proszę zadać zdającemu dwa z poniższych pytań:
1. What are the most significant changes in a person's life?
I'm not sure if I understand the question correctly but if it's about milestones in a person's life, then I'd say there are a few... First of all it's the day when you start your education... Another milestone is when you move on to lower-secondary school and then to upper-secondary school which you finish by taking the final exam. Then your studies, starting your family and getting a job. Later on it would be retirement and being a grandparent... Each of these milestones imposes certain attitudes, challenges and mental and physical changes.
2. In your opinion, can a change of look affect your personality? Why? Why not?
I thinks it can. When you know you are a top model, it makes you more confident. When you fall down with some illness which affects your appearance, you feel terrible with it. The good thing though is that when you grow older the way you look is still important but not as important as it usually is when you're a teenager or a young adult. I think it's all natural. After all, one has too look attractive first to find a partner for life and then other things come into play.
3. It is often said that people don't change. Do you agree? Why? Why not?
It depends... If you mean physical appearance, I would rather be inclined to disagree, but when it comes to one's personality, I believe it may be true of some people who seem to be able to retain their often young spirit and although they progress in age, they are still young at heart. It might be so due to various life contexts in which one finds himself/herself during a lifetime. If your life is positive and prolific, then you're more likely to remain as you were as a teenager. If, on the other hand, your life changes into a series of protracted miseries, then you're very probable to become a sad and gloomy person.
4. Some people say that you become adult on the day when you turn 18. Do you agree? Why? Why not?
No, I definitely do not agree... Just the fact of you turning 18 doesn't mean much to me. It is how mature you prove to be in everyday life that makes you adult not your age. There are people who are old and who behave as if they were 15 years old. There are also people who, despite of their young age, are very mature.
