I bet you have! So who was he?
We have to travel back in time to the 18th century. There was a great explorer who was called James Cook. He made as many as three voyages during which he mapped the world's largest and deepest ocean, i.e. the Pacific Ocean.
When he was on his first voyage, he sailed around what is now New Zealand and down the east coast of Australia.
On his second journey James Cook explored the Antarctic and it's thanks to this guy that we learned of many South Pacific islands.
His last trip resulted in the discovery of Hawaii.
What's interesting about this guy is that he didn't travel to conquer new lands, he was basically focused on doing his research projects, thanks to which we learned so much about different people, plants and animals he saw and described.
What else do you know of this gentleman?
