What was the flower symbol of the People's Republic of Poland?

I am old enough to remember that it was ...

CARNATION

In Polish this flower is called goździk. Check out the pronunciation of our today's word: carnation.

This is a very nice word for many reasons one of them being it's a false friend in Polish because when Polish students hear or see the word 'carnation', they immediately associate it with a similar word in Polish, which is 'karnacja', that is 'complexion' (in English).

Son, from now on... please, do not be confused and remember that CARNATION is a flower... :)

My question to you:
Do you like carnations? Have you ever got one? What was the occasion?
