similes: Are you ever as gentle as a lamb?

Hmm... Which is better these days being brutal, strong and steep or perhaps

There is no clear-cut answer to this question, is there? Before I express my own opinion on this, let's just study this simile for a second. Who is as gentle as a lamb? Well, it's a person, who is usually very calm and kind. The world would be a real paradise if everybody were as gentle as lambs, wouldn't it? In Polish we would translate it as łagodny jak baranek.

So... are you as gentle as a lamb or are you quite opposite? I guess, to many people being as gentle as a lamb in real life is often associated with being a loser in fact. Is this really so? If one is as gentle as a lamb, does it always mean s/he is a loser? Ok, whatever you think, I would always love to be as gentle as a lamb as this is the Holy Spirit's work :) Thus, if you're not as gentle as a lamb, there is a problem...

One more thing... gentleness does not mean weakness. Everybody should be as gentle as a lamb, but never weak or insecure. I think all of us should be polite and be able to demonstrate restrained behavior toward others.

The opposites of being as gentle as a lamb is being angry and nourishing a desire for revenge.  In fact, you have to be a really tough person to become a gentle one. Otherwise, you only show your weakness...
Let's read Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's wonderful illustration of gentleness in his poem “The Village Blacksmith.” The main character is described thus:

“The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.”

However, in church, as he hears his daughter singing a hymn, the smith is overcome with emotion, “And with his hard, rough hand he wipes / A tear out of his eyes.” This is gentleness. Might restrained. Humility and grace.

So, I wish everybody (including myself) to become as gentle as a lamb in the most positive sense of the word :)

Let's take a look at a few examples from the Net:
  • Dog killed by police 'was as gentle as a lamb' Keith Gerein with files from David Finlayson The Edmonton Journal January 31, 2007...
  • Daisy, the mule, was as gentle as a lamb, strong as an ox...
  • Yet, at other times he was as gentle as a lamb.
  • Because while he was as gentle as a lamb in practice, his words and commitment was as fierce and loud as a lion's roar.
  • Behind her tough exterior, she was as gentle as a lamb, and would never admit how much she cared for us.
My question to you:
Are you ever as gentle as a lamb?

Looking forward to your valuable posts impatiently!
