St Patrick's Day!

Yeah! It is March 17 and another St Patrick's Day! Who is St Patrick? He is the patron saint of Ireland although Britain was his homeland. Why is he so Irish? Well, as a 14 year old boy he was captured and taken to Ireland, where he was kept as a slave and had to herd sheep. Then, when he was in his 30s, he returned to Ireland but as a missionary to convert the Celts. And why is the shamrock a symbol of Ireland? Well, the legend has it that Patrick used the plant to explain what the Holy Trinity was :)

I have some other questions for you to test your knowledge about this day. I challenge you to these questions! Leave your answers in your posts!

1.    St Patrick’s Day is celebrated to commemorate which event?
2.    Which is the day St Patrick died?

4.   Which color is associated with St Patrick’s Day?
5.    What does the shamrock signify on the Day?
6.   What does leprechaun mean?

May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends beneath it never fall out!

  1. I really want to be able to get 100% on this test, but I have no clue what most of the answers are. Number 3 is easy - England! I'm going to guess that #9's answer is grass.

    1. Congratulations on having answered Q:3, you're right it is England. When it comes to Q:9, well, it is not grass, it is the color of hope. :)

  2. Honestly, I had to do some Google search to find out the answers to the questions! As to question #4, green is the color that is associated with St. Patrick's Day, but I read somewhere that blue was the original St. Patrick's Day color.

  3. You're right Scarlet to say that in fact blue was originally associated with St Patrick's Day and only then was it changed to green as Ireland was green and blue simply didn't fit. :)
